A remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will be coming out next year for Xbox Series consoles, PC and, for the first time, a PlayStation console, Microsoft revealed Friday. This will be a rebuilt version of the 2001 game first released on the original Xbox along with new content.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will contain the original missions found in the first Halo game but with enhanced level design, updated cinematics and improved wayfinding, according to the Xbox Store listing. The remake will also have high-definition graphics, improved controls and three prequel missions that will star Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.
Some other changes added to the remake, according to its listing, are a "broader arsenal of weapons, vehicles, enemies," and challenge Skulls, which were first introduced in Halo 2 as optional gameplay modifiers with a variety of effects, such as increasing difficulty or randomizing weapons. Several features from the later Halo games, such as sprinting and hijacking vehicles, will be included. Along with the graphics, the game's score and sound will also be remastered.

Microsoft previously remastered the original Halo game shortly after gaining control of the franchise, releasing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary in 2011. But the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved packs in something extra: completely new prequel missions. These three missions take place before the events of the original game, and will feature new environments, gameplay, characters and enemies.
There will also be two-player split-screen co-op and four-player online co-op, but online multiplayer is not mentioned on the store page.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will be released sometime in 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles. Microsoft didn't reveal a price for the remake, but it will be available on Day 1 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers.
