REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia aims that crude oil imported from Russia could be shipped to Indonesia from April 2026. Meanwhile, for the purchase of LPG from Russia, Bahlil said it is still in the process of finalization.
“If for crude, if for crude, maybe these months (April) can be (sent to Indonesia). Insyaallah,” Bahlil said when he met at the Office of the Ministry of ESDM, Jakarta, Friday (17/4/2026).
The percentage of LPG imported from Russia to Indonesia's total needs is still under discussion. Bahlil explained that Indonesia's LPG needs in 2026 are projected to reach 10 million tons, with domestic production capacity only at 1.6 million tons. Thus, about 8.4 million tons were filled through imports.
Prior to the outbreak of war between the United States (US) and Israel against Iran, 70—75 percent of Indonesia's LPG imports came from the U.S., 20 percent from the Middle East, as well as the rest from several other countries, one of them Australia.
“Once Saudi Aramco hits a missile in their factory, in their industry, it must have a global impact,” Bahlil said.
Therefore, Indonesia will import crude oil and LPG from Russia as an alternative source of crude oil and LPG that has been imported from the Middle East region.
Indonesia-Russia cooperation is the fruit of energy negotiations that took place during the visit of President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Energy Bahlil Lahadalia to Russia on Monday (13/4).

“In my meetings with the Minister of Energy and the Russian government, it has been agreed that we will have support. We're going to buy crude from Russia. We do this in other countries as well, including in America,” Bahlil said.
The measures are a government strategy to guarantee the reliability of energy supplies amid uncertain geopolitical conditions.
“So there has to be diversification. God willing, our crude will get better,” he said
