REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) recorded the death toll from disasters in North Sumatra, Aceh, and West Sumatra at 303 people.

On the third day after the establishment of the disaster emergency status in the province of North Sumatra, 166 victims died and 143 people were still declared missing. The biggest impacts occurred in Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, and Sibolga City districts.

“North Sumatra is now 166 people dead. In one day this increased to 60 fatalities thanks to a search and rescue operation by a joint team led by Basarnas. Then there are 103 lives that are still missing,” BNPB Chief Lieutenant General Suharyanto said on Sunday (30/11/2025).

On the second day after the establishment of the disaster emergency response status in Aceh province, 47 victims died, 51 people were missing, and 8 people were injured. The number of refugees reached 48,887 heads of families spread across different regions, with the highest distribution in North Aceh, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, and Aceh Singkil.

“For the Aceh region there are 47, then 51 are still missing and 8 injured. This will continue to evolve with the data, as there is a joint SAR operation that will likely continue to find victims,” Suharyanto said.

Meanwhile, two days after the establishment of the disaster emergency response status in West Sumatra province, 90 victims died, 85 people were missing, and 10 people were injured. Agam district recorded the highest number of casualties. “There are 90 dead, 85 missing and 10 injured,” Suharyanto said.

Provisional data show as many as 11,820 heads of families or about 77,918 people were displaced, mainly in Padang City and South Coastal Regency. A number of provincial and national lines were cut off by landslides and bridge damage, making it difficult for distribution access.

“Nevertheless, logistics from Padang Pariaman and the South Coast have arrived, and eight additional points are in the delivery process with police escort,” Suharyanto said.

BNPB has deployed 24 personnel to accompany the acceleration of handling in West Sumatra. Emergency assistance from the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the form of communication tools, generator sets, tents, LCR, and thousands of boxes of ready meals have arrived at Minangkabau Airport.

“Caravan aircraft and Bell 505 helicopters have also been deployed to support distribution to areas that are not yet accessible by land,” Suharyanto said.
