REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono announced that the government plans to launch 1,000 Red and White Cooperatives, scheduled to be officially inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on May 16, 2026.
Ferry told reporters in Jakarta on Monday that a meeting had been held at the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions. The meeting was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Food, the Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the President Director of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara.
The meeting announced that the launch would take place in Nganjuk Regency, East Java. However, Ferry emphasized that the plan was still tentative.
He explained that the cooperatives whose operations will be launched are among thousands whose physical construction has been completed. "Approximately 1,000 cooperatives will be launched out of approximately 7,200 cooperatives whose physical construction, including warehouses, outlets, and equipment, have been 100% completed," he said.
He also mentioned that there are approximately 25,000 other cooperatives currently under construction. The government is currently focusing on the operational aspects of cooperatives to ensure their rapid operation.
He stated that the Red and White Cooperative is expected to not only be an economic instrument but also provide direct benefits to village communities.
Responding to the possible delay in cooperative operations due to the launch of only 1,000 units, he emphasized that the cooperative's implementation will be carried out in stages. "No, this is gradual," he said.
In addition to preparing cooperative operations, the government is also currently conducting the recruitment process for Red and White Cooperative managers, which is currently entering the competency testing phase. The government has scheduled the announcement of the final selection results for June 7, 2026.
Participants who pass will undergo basic military reserve component (Komcad) training, as well as managerial and field competency training before being placed in the cooperative.
